COSTS
Costs and rates
When hiring a criminal defense attorney, it is important to have clarity about the costs. The amount of the costs depends on various factors, such as the nature of the case, its complexity, and the stage of the criminal proceedings.
Hourly rate and price agreements
In many criminal cases, an hourly rate is used. This rate can vary, depending on factors such as:
the complexity of your case
the urgency
and the necessary commitment
In some cases, it is possible to make clear price agreements in advance, for example for defined work. This will always be discussed with you in advance.
Costs in the event of acquittal or dismissal
If your case is dismissed or you are acquitted, in many cases you can submit a request for reimbursement of costs. The government will then reimburse (part of) the costs incurred for legal assistance.
It is important to know that:
cost reimbursement is not automatically granted,
and depends on the circumstances of the case.
Your lawyer can provide you with specific advice on this matter.
Appeals and court proceedings
Also in certain procedures, such as:
an objection to the seizure of goods,
or other chambers proceedings,
If an objection is upheld, there may be entitlement to (partial) reimbursement of costs.
Transparency is paramount
You will always receive clear information in advance about:
the method of claiming expenses
potential costs
and any fees
This way, you won't be faced with any surprises.
